Hotel Plaza   - Old Havana

Inaugurated on December 29, 1909, the Hotel Plaza is considered a gem of the Cuban hotel industry. Constructed in a triangular shape, its magnificent neoclassical facade stands out in its Old Havana surroundings. Good taste rules at the Plaza which features a beautiful colonial patio, a picturesque fountain from the same period, abundant vegetation, sculptures and colorful stained-glass windows which filter the tropical light and create a very special atmosphere. The Plaza retains all the glamour of the turn of the century in its comfortable rooms and lounges. Especially recommended for the quality of their services and personalized attention are the Real Plaza and Los Portales restaurants, the attractive lobby bar-café, and the splendid Fausto terrace bar on the top floor, featuring unique views of the city.

The Plaza offers a luxury setting. At the gates of the oldest part of the city, on the corner of the Parque Central and close to Paseo del Prado, the Gran Teatro de la Habana and famous restaurants such as the Floridita and La Bodeguita del Medio.

Albert Einstein once stayed and dined at a sumptuous banquet here, and the long guest list includes luminaries such as Isidora Duncan and Babe Ruth (whose former accommodations, suite 216, are today a kind of museum of nostalgia for baseball lovers, complete with El Bambino’s bat and ball).

A block away from Prado, the Plaza is also privileged in terms of location and with many sites in this part of town. The Capitolio and Gran Teatro are virtually across the street and Obispo (a few blocks away) takes you to very heart of the city’s colonial center.

Rooms at the Plaza are spacious, and a number of them have a private balcony. If you’re looking for a view, however, the rooftop Bar Solarium is the place to go at this hotel, especially if you would like a privileged look at the impressive Bacardi Building. A more intimate setting is found at the 2nd floor inner patio, ideal for savoring an afternoon tea or coffee.

With an elegant restaurant, as well as more economic, less formal eateries, the Plaza also offers good options for eating in. Other attractive features include an executive meeting room (located on the 5th floor), with capacity for 80 people and technical facilities such as a video projector, a money exchange locale, a professional torcedor rolling Cuban cigars on order next to the lobby bar, and dance lessons offered daily to guests free of charge.
